SpyderLensCal™

Project scope: The SpyderLensCal is a fast and reliable method of measuring the focus performance of camera and lens combinations.  Datacolor selected us to design and engineer this automatic focusing tool. The key objectives of the product: that it be a compact, lightweight, and durable addition to the photographer’s toolkit.

For this Datacolor product, Definitive provided concept generation, preliminary engineering, prototyping and finalized engineering. The final design utilized rugged injection-molded plastic components and precision printed graphics.  The product folds flat for portability and can easily be set up in a precise configuration for accurate, razor-sharp camera focus calibration.  We also added a tripod mount and bubble level, making the product the easiest way yet for photographers to achieve repeatable and accurate lens calibration.
