Datacolor Viewport

Project scope: Another challenge from our friends at Datacolor: develop a reliable light box that would use high precision digital imaging, along with image visualization on a calibrated display. The light box needed to work remotely to capture, transmit, and view a wide range of fabrics for color accuracy in daylight, home lighting, and in a retail setting.

Definitive provided soup to nuts services in developing the Viewport. From research and initial concept generation to industrial design concept refinements, preliminary engineering, prototyping and finalized engineering to verification prototyping. We also acted as production liaison. The result is a product with first-of-its-kind technology that enables visual and numerical color assessment on a variety of fabrics—fabrics that previously could not be evaluated for an objective color quality assessment.  The system is designed to meet the daily needs of retail colorists and QC operators and significantly improves the accuracy with which textiles are replicated and quality controlled.
